Two-phase grey hair dyeing

28. 12. 2016

Hair dyeing with henna works as a protective coloured hair layer. Its final tone depends on your natural one. This means that if you dye your normal hair colour, its final tone will vary from the tone you would reach on grey hair. Therefore, when it comes to grey hair, we suggest the two-phase hair dyeing. The first step is dyeing your hair with the copper mermaid henna. The second step requires using your chosen colour tone after 24-48 hours. A second option is dyeing your hair twice with the same colour tone, for example using black twice.

Does henna wash out?

Colouring with henna has a long-lasting effect, however there are several other factors to consider apart from the quality of henna. For example, you hair type, its natural colour, the extent of damage, the frequency of the usage of chemical colours, shampoos and other hair care products. The tones with a higher indigo content wash out faster due to a less stable connection to the hair.

Can I mix different colour tones together?

The individual colour tones can be mixed together, yet is it important to know the final colour tone that you would like to achieve and also what is the colour tone of your own hair.

Do I have to wash my hair with special cosmetics while I use henna?

You do not need to wash your hair with any kind of hair care especially intended for hair dyed with henna. Nonetheless, you should make sure that the shampoos and conditioners you use are natural, at least free from silicones that disrupt the effect of henna.

How long do you need to wait between hair colourings?

In the two-phase hair dyeing process, as a second step, you can dye your hair almost immediately after the first colouring. In other cases we recommend 14-48 hours. There is a possibility that the colour might change on your hair because it will somehow fixate itself. However, you don’t need to be afraid. An almost immediate hair colouring process is not harmful.

How does henna react to chemically coloured hair?

Firstly, it is important to have a monthly break from chemical colouring but also a 3-week-break from the usage of chemical silicon shampoos. Try applying henna on a strand of hair before the completehair dyeing process, so you can avoid unwanted colour results. This can happen especially with hair that has been decolourized. Once you decide using henna, we do not recommend decolourizing your hair with chemical dyes. This option might lead to great diversions from the desired result.

What should I do if the colouring darkens my hair?

In that case, we recommend that you dye your entire head every third hair colouring. Only dye your outgrown hair roots the other two times. The colour tone may alter within 24 hours.
